In Nichola Fletcher's book "Charlemagne's Tablecloth - A Piquant History of Feasting" she has this to say about do in the context of the Japanese tea ceremony:

"Next there is do, meaning a way of studying something in such intimate depth that it becomes a personal path of spiritual learning in the Zen tradition. The way of tea, therefore, is chado, whose measured rituals are an expression of Zen Buddhism embodying the spiritual art of hospitality. Shado, the art of calligraphy, and self-defence arts like aikido are other examples of do."
